'' i was born of the womb of a poisonous man '' beaten and b r o k e n and c h a s e d from the land It wasn’t unusual for Demetrius to lock himself up inside the house. He wasn’t a very sociable person, generally confiding only in himself. He didn’t trust anyone, not even his advisors. Why should he trust them? No one on this pitiful earth had ever proven to him that they deserved to be trusted. The constant betrayal in his life made him this way. He was so guarded, so… fiercely closed off that it seemed he scared even the scariest vampires. Even though he wasn’t physically intimidating at first – after a few minutes with him, he could put people in their place. At least, that’s how he thought about it. Demetrius leaned himself back in one of the chairs in the lounge room. His feet were up in the table, very carelessly, he was dressed casually, his hair all messy, and a book in one hand with a small bit of scotch in a glass in his other hand. He was basically dressed in casual clothing, obviously assuming no one would come bother him, if they did, there’d be consequences. Ruthless; he had no patience for traitors. Actually, he had no patience for anyone at all. People in general had this odd predisposition of pissing him off. Then again, he had a really short fuse. He flipped the page of his book. He had an strange fondness for reading Shakespeare.
People tended to connect his name to Shakespeare, insult him and try to tell him that he was named after the character; pretty stupid since he lived long before Shakespeare. Most people didn’t know Demetrius’ age; quite frankly he was sure he was the oldest vampire on the Earth. Actually, he was almost one hundred percent positive he was one of, if not the oldest vampire around. Being as ridiculously old as he was he had seen just about everything. Nothing could honestly surprise Demetrius much anymore. Nothing at all. In fact, like was majorly boring now. The excitement of life… was entirely gone. After the first thousand years, new things didn’t intrigue him and he was bored of everyone and everything. Now he was ruling the vampires, granted it was almost as boring as his life had been in the past, it had its interesting perks every now and then. He could kill people without being wanted.
Knock, knock. Demetrius’ head snapped up and his book snapped closed. In one fluid movement, he was up, his book laid on the table, and his feet glided him towards the door. He opened the door, his eyes slowly turning obsidian, his pupils bled into his irises, giving a severe look at the person who disrupted him. “Sorry sir! We found this… man betraying us, he’s been leaking information to the Casters!” A stout vampire guard pushed a younger vampire into the room. Demetrius looked him over carefully. “Leave.” He simply said, pushing the door shut, and the guards out. He then turned to the young male vampire. “Are the things they accuse you of true? Speak the truth.” Demetrius hissed, the young vampire didn’t speak, just sheepishly nodded his head. It was quite obvious what was bound to happen next. Dem swiftly moved forward, wrapping his fingers around the male’s throat, he picked him up then slammed him roughly down into the floor of the room, he pulled his hand back and smashed in the male’s head. He then picked up the body and dragged it down through the room and to the back balcony. He pushed the door open and threw the body out into the back yard.
He walked back in and slammed the doors shut and locked them. He walked back over and sat right back down, picking up the book once more. He relaxed right back into his seat and went right back to reading. But he could already hear the footsteps outside, and his eyebrow began to twitch, because he knew all too well – someone was going to interrupt him again. Before they could even knock, he yelled out: “Its unlocked. This better be good.”

It wasn't often that Isolade left the Shifter territory. And even less often that she left fully guarded and armed to the teeth. There was only one explanation for this trip. She was livid. Never in her life had a declaration of war been so plane but unanswered. She needed to travel and get to the bottom of this before she decided heads needed to roll. She didn't fancy being a red queen where heads rolled every time something went wrong. She traveled by day waiting just outside the vampire's castle waiting until nightfall so she couldn't be deemed 'sneaking' in. It was time King Demetrius and Empress Isolade had words. She herself was armed to the teeth with just that her claws and her teeth. She wouldn't lie she was otherwise armed with daggers hidden by her boots and her skirt. She shifted into her half form, the kind of form only herself and the past leaders had been able to accomplish. Her eyes arched deeply in the slight shape of a cougar's. Her icy eyes took in everything and gave nothing away. Her tan ears peaked out of her long black hair that hung loose and strung with beads. And lastly a slender tail peaked its way out of her skirts.
She did this as she traveled through the territory with not only a vampire escort but her own shifter escort. She did not share the purpose of the visit with either party. This was strictly a matter between the King and herself. Things had been building and she wanted to reach a diplomatic solution before things got out of hand. The vampires had gotten too close to the border of the safe lands and the sentries had even stopped a few from entering. The only war the shifters would enter into would be a defensive one but Isolade wanted to give the king this knowledge before he kept on his way. Three times the vampire army had asked for free passage through her lands and all three times she refused and then they had started forcing their way in. The shifters were a powerful race and not to be messed with. The shifters could easy turn the tide of the war should they do the impossible and chose a side.
Isolade would neither choose sides not make preference to attack. If it had been casters or dragons, or werewolves the reaction would be the same. Defend safety. The difference in what the shifters were engaged in now was that every time a wave of vampires approached they appeared out of the forest in ways only shifters could and fended them off but instead of pursuing they let the attackers retreat. Right now the Shifters had fended the vampires off with limited casualties on both sides. But she did not want any of her shifters in peril. It ached her heart that there were ones dying at this moment and she wasn't there with them. Her guard was rather diverse, with her she had a tiger, a wolf, an eagle, a robin, a bear, a stag, and a fly. The fly rested hidden on her shoulder where it would stay being her secret eyes and ears ready to report to the shifters should something happen. She reached the steps of the castle just as night was reaching its peak and she and her guards were moved quickly inside.
Once inside she and her company followed the vampire up several stairs and up to a door. She heard his voice before she even reached the door. She waited as the vampire timidly went to the door and announced her. "Umm... ah, Lord, you have a visitor." The vampire stuttered, "Empress Isolade Kachina of the Shifter Pride is seeking your company." She waited until the announcement was made then entered the room moving with no more sound than a cat. She left her guards outside the door, all but the fly who buzzed off to sit near the window. "Greetings King," Isolade began politely. She did not bow nor incline her head, she showed herself keeping her back straight and her eyes fixed and her head high showing she was his equal. The anger had not left her eyes as she had traveled and only grew darker seeing the King. "We have much to discuss." She held her tongue back from going on a tirade and getting herself in trouble. Her temper and her tongue were her Achilles Heels.

'' i was born of the womb of a poisonous man '' beaten and b r o k e n and c h a s e d from the land AS the vampire spoke, Demetrius didn’t look up even once. He kept his eyes on his book, reading the words he’d read numerous times before; after all, he had had a long time to read all of Shakespeare’s work, and then some. He almost ignored the man completely, but was listening enough to pick up that the shapeshifter leader had decided to show up. Demetrius wasn’t pleased in the slightest with that information. He didn’t want the woman to bother him, after all he wasn’t dressed properly and all that stuff. Even more so Shifters could be tricky, and he absolutely hated the idea of a stupid shifter trying to catch him off guard in some manner. Even as she entered and spoke to him, he didn’t move. His appearance was statuesque, not a single muscle in his body moved, not even his eyes. He didn’t care when she walked in, and hardly showed her respect. In his own mind, no one even deserved respect until they proved otherwise. He didn’t mind being so indecent to others, because their opinions of him meant absolutely nothing. He was just trying to prove his case by ignoring her at first. He slapped his book shut finally and spun the chair (one of those spinney desk chairs) so he was looking at her. He never got up, just kept in his position: his eyes on her the entire time.
His eyes glanced around the room slowly. “What is it you want shifter? I have little time and no patience for you.” He said slowly, in a calm, even voice. He didn’t even bat a lash in her direction. He just folded his hands and watched her from where he sat. Now, vampires weren’t stupid, they had heightened senses and could hear the heartbeats of just about anything, any living creature. Not to mention he could hear the buzz of the bug in the first place. “If you’re intentions are to set me up,” he paused and glanced at the window, the buzzing hadn’t started until the empress had appeared. “I’ll squash your fly in a heartbeat.” He said very coolly. Dem was prepared to do just about anything to secure his own safety.
He knew that the vampires were going through shifter territory, or trying to force their way through, and he couldn’t care less what the shifters had to say about it. If his army needed to get from point A to point B, and that was the easiest route – the shifters could shut the hell up and deal with it. It wasn’t like the vampires were going to eat them all (though, he would admit, he wouldn’t give two shits if they did, that would be just one less enemy to deal with). “Speak now Empress, I clearly have more important things to do than sit here and listen to you bitch.” Blunt honesty, though really reading couldn’t be considered “more important”, well at least it wouldn’t be to anyone other than him. He hated having to do the dirty political side of being a ruler. He preferred if everyone just shut the fuck up and let him do whatever the hell he wanted. He had the power, he had the right to do whatever he wanted. He was a ruler, and that was his views. He didn’t want to deal with this stupid shit or the whiney rulers of other groups. They couldn’t control him even if they wanted to. He was older than all of them, and in his own opinion, probably wiser.

The cougar's arms crossed with vexation as the stench of blood reached her nose. To add to her vexation he didn't even acknowledge her. But that was the vampire way, it had been the way of the vampire King before him and all it took was patience. Unfortunately her patience had run out a few days ago when the vampires had attacked. She took a look around the room detecting the changes. When she had been here before it had been a lot warmer. When she had come before during her enlightenment the King had been wise and kind, even gentle. Then this brute had killed him and the vampires just let him have the throne. She would never understand vampires, they were like walking contradictions. Isolade wasn't intimidated by him. She knew she should be but she wasn't the vampire had a lot more to lose than to gain if he decided to kill her. For then the Shifters would take a side and the war would be over. Isolade schooled herself not to be startled by the sudden movement. He didn't stand didn't even give a formal greeting. Isolade hadn't expected one.
"You will have patience for me vampire." She growled back a feline growl in her voice. She would return him the same amount of respect he gave her, teach him he was not the ruler of the world not even close. She smiled sweetly, "I wouldn't dream of it King." She replied when he commented on the fly. She knew poor Rak was probably about to unshift in terror so she had to keep him focused on her. "Worry not, treachery is not in our nature." She took a few bold steps into the room toward him knowing the danger of the move but it was necessary. She wasn't going anywhere until he heard her and did something about it. She crossed her arms and looked down her nose at him. Isolade had never had any personal qualms with vampires but they always rubbed her the wrong way, as did werewolves. She remembered the first time she saw a werewolf she thought they were kin to her but it soon became apparent that bloodlust was deeply rooted in these two races.
She shook her head at him openly denying him. "No, King, you do not have more important things to do. In fact as I hear it you have all the time in the world, no?" She purred a little gaining confidence. "King I have a demand and you will hear it." She declared raising her head proudly. "You're vampires have been moving on Shifter land. Shifter land is neutral and peaceful and I will not have that fouled by your foolish grudge." She bristled at his rudeness but ignored it and continued. "Shifter land is open to all with peaceful intent and your soldiers are not welcome. They have twice now attacked a peaceful negotiator who would give them an alternative route and I will not have it." She bared her teeth a little to emphasize her point. "King I demand you remove your soldiers and find another route." She said just a touch of warning in her voice. The Shifters were a strong clan and could easily take whatever the vampires threw at them. She didn't relax her stance nor back down now that her point was known. If Isolade had guessed right she was going to have to fight to make sure he took her seriously.

Her words agitated him, as if his temper wasn’t short enough, she went directly into provoking it. For a neutral party leader, she clearly didn’t choose her words wisely. She sounded more like she wanted a fight rather than peace. Truly, she must’ve lied about her intentions. This shifter was highly biased in both words and actions. Demetrius hardly moved as she spoke, she had already ignited a furious fire inside of him, he was prepared to kill her if she kept at it. “You have no clue what I have on my plate, I do have more important things than talking to you, you are not important. You cannot tell me what is important on my agenda, you hardly have a clue, ignorant woman.” Demetrius snapped. “I do not. I have more things to do than sit here and listen to you bitch and whine because you’re stupid little… outcasts are getting killed for being in the way.” To him, the shifters were hardly anything more than an annoying fly on the wall – oh which reminded him. “Have your damn fly spy leave this room before I crush its little head.” He snapped. He was not pleased in the slightest with this little… arrogant woman invading his office and bitching as she was. He didn’t want to hear it, didn’t care what she had to say. She could just jump off a cliff at that point and he wouldn’t care.
“If the land is neutral than moving across it shouldn’t be a problem. My men are simply crossing it to kill the casters. I feel your presence here is suggesting you have chosen a side, and there fore are no longer neutral. Shall I have to declare war on you as well?” He purred out. It seemed like Demetrius’ pupils were getting smaller, the obsidian color which had taken over his iris was now retreating as he mused over this new suggestion. “If its neutral, anyone should be allowed to tread the land, and yet here you are biased; telling me to remove my troops. Yet you allow caster troops to cross your land? Caster spies?” He didn’t move from his position, merely folded his hands in front of his face, his blue eyes staring into hers. If there was one thing Demetrius was good at, it was twisting people’s words, thinking outside the box – and proving people wrong. “Wouldn’t want to you’re your precious followers would you?” He added, in a threatening manner. His eyes flickered to the window. “If you won’t remove the damn thing, make it be in its human form. I’d rather prefer to be able to see this person than have to hear for them, even if my hearing is better.” He purred out.
Demetrius mentally alerted his guards to watch the shifters. “Now if you want to negotiate something, you’d be better off trying to convince my advisors, rather than myself.” he waved his hand in the air in a nonchalant manner. “I have no use for treaties, or did the death of the original vampire leader not prove that?” he smirked. The original leader had started to desire a diplomatic solution for this war, and Demetrius had not agreed to it in the slightest, so rather than let it happen, he killed the man and took over his position. Anarchy; pure chaos was his goal. The world needed a little chaos; otherwise it’d just be so dang boring. He mentally mused over the fact. If he could cause pure chaos, it’d just please him that much more. (However, he was quite pleased with how outrageously chaotic the war was getting, or would be getting very soon.)

"You are mistaken that I care about what you have on your plate." She retorted her anger rising as he spoke. She held her tongue and endured giving herself time to prepare her argument. She snapped at the word outcast. "Outcasts! Those at war are outcast because peace is the only thing that brings unity out of the masses." She snarled back. When he made a threat to Rak the poor thing quivered and with a cry the child transformed and ran to her. She grabbed him protectively with on hand around him and another comfortingly on his head. He was a child no more than twelve. She had chosen him inexperienced to come with her because of his ability as a fly. "Shh," she soothed the sobbing child, "Go stand with Zak." She gave him one last hug regretting bringing him along. He was just a child, but they didn't have any other insect shifters at the moment. She opened the door and the kid darted out like the fly he mimicked in form. Zak was his older brother and a bear. He had protested bringing his brother along and now she wished she had listened.
"There we are free and on our own." She said lifting her arms to show she was also defenseless. Though defenseless was a figure of speech no shifter was ever defenseless. She too a step toward him gesturing wildly trying to get her point through his head. "Neutral land is neutral because it doesn't take a side. I have denied you entrance because I have denied the werewolves entrance. Allowing a waring party to cross through neutral lands would force me to take a side and I will not take a side!" She declared her voice raising with every sentence. She bared her canines warningly, "You wouldn't dare. You could not win a war against the Shifters." That wasn't a boast at the moment the Shifters were the strongest race and had been proving that by holding their border. "I have never allowed such a thing." She said stubbornly. "We are neutral because we do not take a side that doesn't mean that neutral land is free for you to cross. Be it neutral or otherwise it is still Shifter land and you will not cross it without my permission and I give you no permission." She was completely sure of herself, "Anyone crossing my land with ill intent has been stopped and turned back. If they travel around I hold no responsibility for them."
She shook her head at him annoyed. No matter how old or wise men were men and they were thick headed and stubborn. Isolade bit back an impatient sigh, in her mind if all the clans were lead by women they would easily keep peace. She bit her tongue to keep herself from telling him what she really thought about him. "I wish to negotiate nothing. I wish for you to remove your troops at once. The Shifters will not chose a side nor will we allow one side to pass and not the other. Remove your people from my boarder there are easy paths around Shifter land." She suggested keeping her temper with great patience. She smirked and gave him a sick smile, "No you made that point very clear." She heard a warning growl from outside the door and stiffened a little. "The former King has some sense, I miss that." She said softly giving him a pleasant smile. She knew that would nick a nerve and she immediately regretted the words. "King I come as a peaceful envoy, please remove your vampires from my border and I will take care that no one passes through to your lands. My Shifters will watch the borders and keep the shifter lands neutral." She said weary from the fighting she knew the king was trying to pull out of her. He was trying to show her that her short temper had a place in the war as well, yet Isolade loved her people far too much to let them fall into a war that had nothing to do with them.
